Developing Spiritual Fortitude

Categories: My Daily Practice, Tags: ,

Commitment to the daily practice.

Twenty minutes a day! It can feel like forever at times and other times like hardly any time has passed at all. Sometimes 20 minutes feels like too much time while other times it feels like nowhere near enough. It’s a great commitment to devote twenty minutes a day once a day and quite another to devote to doing it 4 times a day. What I do know is that if I don’t spend at the very least twenty minutes a day actively engaged in a flow of Sacred Circumambulation that I won’t have the Spiritual fortitude to engage in life with the intensity that I desire from life’s experience and to be a “real force for good.”

It is going to take deep Spiritual roots and the affinity towards maintaining an inteconnectedness as we have never experienced before if what we really want is to shift paradigms and participate in the direction of change.

The need to make the righteous choice now is greater than ever in our global culture. I see clearly the need for Spiritual fortitude on a mass level. We have misused the resources of the planet all the while treating each other in the most inhumane of ways. This is a long-standing pattern and change will not come easy. We can shift our cosmic direction but there is not ever going to be some great cosmic shift where we wake up one day living in Utopia.

What will that take? Are twenty minutes a day enough to devote to a Spiritual practice? That is what I was asking myself today while walking my Sacred Circles. Is it going to be enough for me to show up and represent the culture of We Are All One? Where is my Spiritual fortitude and is it aligned with my highest vision? In all honesty, not very likely.

So I’m taking this time to buckle down and devote myself to that like I know I can. Twenty minutes a day committed towards the intentional development of my Spiritual fortitude.

I see the Fires of rage and hate and separation and greed that are burning like wildfires all around me. It is easy to be consumed by someone else’s Fire. Through this work, I walk to be like the immovable Buddha and I will develop the necessary skills to stand in my own Fire of love and acceptance and tolerance and equality. All towards the embodiment of the concept We Are All One! To be able to stand in my own Fire of my individual choices and the impact they have globally now. To be able to live through the burning and the inconvenience of change.

All-Night Fire Ritual and the Fool’s Journey

Laughter and the Blending of Opposites

As the Sun set on the Autumnal Equinox, the circle torches were lit to mark the beginning of another Fool’s Journey through the All-night Fire Ritual. We called on the wisdom of the Ancestral Fires into the center of the circle. We created Fire by invoking the Sacred Trinity (wood, air, and heat), sparking a chemical reaction, igniting the Sacred Flame that, along with the full Moon, would illuminate our voyage through the night until the Sun rises. The sun sees itself in the Fire, thereby marking the end of our Sacred Journey.

The night was filled with magic and wonder. We introduce ourselves to the Fire, shared and embodied a dynamic attribute about ourselves, deepened our Sacred connection to each other and the Flame, and experienced the Fool, beginners mind, through laughter and the blending of opposites. This was a perfect night for me to deepen my relationship with a new archetype that I have been developing known as “Sirius, the Cosmic Fool,” an interstellar traveler and Light Being.

It was a powerful and moving ritual experience for me, from Sun’s set to its rise. A full night’s fool’s journey through seven various archetypes like the Magician, Nephyths, and Trickster. We took on the work of blending our opposites through the exploration of contemplating the middle way, our illusions, and being prepared for the coming light.

“What is within that hasn’t been but really wants to be exposed or brought out into the light?”

There was a question asked while we were deep into the night, “What is within that hasn’t been but really wants to be exposed or brought out into the light?” I found myself making an intentional decision to deeply explore this question; it felt important to do so. I intensified my walk around the Fire asking the question over and over again. Walking around the Fire with intention, while allowing my body to freely express the energy that wants to be expressed, a scared and frightened little boy came out of me and into the light, exposing before the Fire his story fear and terror. An All-night Fire Ritual can really help to facilitate these experiences. With the help of group ritual, a deep place of healing and transformation was reached and I am ecstatic and eternally grateful.

Just before dawn, we entered into a period of Sacred Silence and inner contemplations. The night was about to be over and soon the light of day would be upon us. It must have been more than an hour before the silence was broken. During that time, we could hear each and every snap, crackle, and pop of the Fire. All night long, we had been talking to the Fire and now it was finally time for Fire to talk to us.

As the light of the coming Sun started to illuminate the sky and the world around us, we shared our Fire conversations with each other, honored the new day and walked back into reality in a new way. In the simplest of ways, I was transformed in a big way. That is the power of an All-night Fire Ritual.

“The All-night Fire Ritual is more than a simple Spiritual practice, it’s a way of life!”

It’s a Sacred recipe for success! Take a night. Any night. It could be the shortest night of the year or if you are brave, the longest. Create a Sacred space for Spirit to fill. Illuminate it. Call forth Fire in the center to be the vehicle for conversation. Add intent and a ritual pathway to get through the night and magic happens! It’s more than simply walking around a ritual fire all night. The added form and structure gives the ritualist a story or mechanism to engage with that allows for and sets the stage for free-form and spontaneous expression.

An All-night Fire Ritual is not a traditional circle ritual. Whether participating in the ritual or facilitating one, it can become a daunting experience often referred to as an ordeal. But sometimes it is not, like this time.

The beginning of the experience included a settling in and preparing of one’s self to be present and fully engage with the ritual experience. Remember, it’s an all-nighter! That was an essential part of the ritual because once we started down the Fool’s journey, we were certainly on our way, as we were prepared or not. Our Fool then creatively progressed through seven stages of exploration before entering the Sacred Silence and coming out into the light.

The heading was skillfully set and our voyage through the night was navigated with sweet delicate precision. Our landing was so smooth that we were able to just walk out of ritual like we had been walking that way all along, born anew once again, along with the Rising Sun. I was truly transformed.

The All-night Fire Ritual is more than a simple Spiritual practice, it’s a way of life!
